Overview: Upsettingly bad — Mismatch of story, characters, and genre This would be a really good Psychological Horror & Tragedy story, but was sadly forced into the Romance genre. ML is manipulative and enjoys FL's fragility. He purposefully triggers her trauma to "see how she would react" and treats her like an amusing toy. Despite this, he is portrayed as her saviour. Narratively, this could be an interesting angle, to have the story told through an unreliable narrator while giving hints that something isn't right. Unfortunately, the author doesn't explore this dissonance in a meaningful way, so it just reads as shallow and misogynistic. I'm all for red / black flag MLs when they're actually written well, but I fear that the author isn't even aware that this guy sucks.
